Last night I pointed Claude Code at my cold email infrastructure with no structured plan and said “build this.” Here’s what actually happened.
The Experiment
I wanted to know if an AI agent could handle the full cold email setup stack — not just help me write emails, but actually build and wire up the whole thing:
- Create cold email campaigns from scratch
- Write the full email sequences
- Upload and import the contact lists
- Connect the campaigns to n8n
- Auto-trigger a response workflow the moment anyone replies
No templates. No hand-holding. Just the agent and the problem.
What Happened
It worked. Mostly.
Claude Code built the campaigns, wrote sequences I’d actually send, handled the list imports, and — the part that got me — wired the reply detection directly into n8n.
So now: someone replies to a cold email → n8n triggers immediately → an automated response fires before I’ve even opened my inbox.
The speed of that reply loop matters. First response wins in outbound. Having that be automatic changes the game.
Old Workflow vs New Workflow
The old way:
- Write sequences manually
- Upload lists one by one
- Monitor replies throughout the day
- Respond when you eventually get round to it
The new way:
- Brief the agent on what you need
- Agent builds the infrastructure
- n8n handles the reply triggers automatically
- You focus on closing the conversations that matter
The Honest Take
I went in with zero structured plan. YOLO’d it. That’s kind of the point.
The bar for spinning up outbound infrastructure is dropping fast. What used to take a full day of setup took one evening of experimenting. Most of the time was me watching it build, testing outputs, and nudging it when something broke.
YOLO builds are becoming a legitimate strategy — and I’m here for it.
What’s Next
Still running tests. Still breaking things. But the cold email + n8n reply automation is live and running.
